See How Indeed Works For You!

Indeed’s mission is clear: They help people get jobs. They are driven to maintain the best search experience possible for the millions of job seekers who use their site. Their approach stresses simplicity, relevance and above all, a laser focus on what is best for the job seeker. As a result, millions of job seekers make Indeed their search tool of choice and Indeed is the #1 source of external hire for employers.

What is Search Quality and how it works at Indeed

Search Quality is central to their mission. Search Quality refers to the process that ensures search results for job seekers are free of spam, predatory offers and misleading listings. Indeed has an entire team dedicated to the Search Quality effort! This team employs a variety of techniques to review all jobs submitted to Indeed and determine their suitability. Jobs flagged for possible violations of search quality guidelines are held for review before being made visible in search results. Most are quickly cleared for inclusion but many are not.

How do they determine which jobs appear in search results?

Indeed is one of the world’s most powerful search engines, executing billions of searches every month. Job seekers enter simple search criteria in “what” and “where” boxes that allow them to find jobs by title, industry, location or even company name. They can also set up alerts to receive notifications when jobs meeting their criteria become available.

But not every work opportunity can appear in Indeed search results. Whether indexed (aggregated from career sites or job boards) or posted directly to Indeed, every job that appears in Indeed search results must adhere to the spirit of their commitment to a quality job seeker experience. In order to clear jobs for inclusion in search results, their Search Quality team requires a number of things from employers and recruiters, including:

  • Respect for job seeker privacy
  • Accurate representations of both the job and the employer
  • Ease of access to job details and contact information
  • Original job listings that have not been reposted or aggregated from other places

Because these are subjective requirements, Indeed always retains the right to remove any job or any employer at its sole discretion. Indeed is a private company and not a public service. They act in their company’s interest and in their users’ interests as they determine.

How can employers stay up to date on the latest Search Quality standards?

They know that most employers and recruitment agencies want to maximize hiring results while playing by the rules. For these companies, understanding Indeeds’ guidelines for inclusion will create transparency and support efforts to maximize hiring results and improve the job seeker experience.

Indeed will continue to provide helpful information to ensure that your jobs appear in search results, including guidelines for good job content, frequently asked questions and details on the review process for flagged jobs. They will also explain the warnings and penalties for companies that violate their policies.

But please note: They cannot give every reason why a job or a company may be removed and they always retain the right to undertake such a removal if they feel it is in their interest or their users’ interest.
